Meaningful Funerals are Doorways to Healing

Personalizing a funeral by portraying the personality and interests of a loved one helps focus us before we begin the painful, but necessary emotional, physical and spiritual transition from life before their death to life after our loss.

Presented are examples of how you can personalize your loved one's funeral.

Someone's love of gardening can be conveyed by the daisies on the back panel of the casket along with displaying rakes, flowers, watering cans and boots.

A sportman's love of fishing, hunting or golfing can be expressed in the mementos of past excursions. The trophy fish, mounted white tail, favorite sweater and cap, even the tackle-box can all be used to personalize a service. The casket can also be personalized by having ceramic fish or a golf ball and clubs on the corners of the casket.

Honor a special person by displaying items that are indicative of a loved one's personality. Their favorite hat and gloves, favorite pictures, vases, pillows or chair can be brought in for their service. The back panel of the casket can display words describing your relationship.

Honoring a loved one's commitment and sacrifices to our nation for serving in the armed services is also possible. Caskets that are specifically designed for a veteran may have back panels that depict the branch of service in which the individual served. Engraving the casket with a specific emblem is popular. Displaying the various medals earned, uniform worn and special memorabilia is also done.

There are many options you may choose to make the funeral visitation a meaningful tribute to your loved one.  Some of these ideas include:

Selecting a casket that complements your loved one's personality. We offer an assortment of various wood caskets or metal caskets that can be customized to signify a special loved one's personality.

You may choose an embroidered panel for the casket that reflects a hobby, belief or lifestyle. The corners on some caskets can be changed to reflect a person's interests; such as, gardening, patriotism, spirituality, outdoor activities, or family relationships.

Caskets can be beautifully engraved with designs ranging from your loved one's name and special dates, to appropriate symbols indicative of their interests.

Floral displays should be as unique as the person they honor. Consider unusual containers and arrangements for flowers, such as fishing baskets, a milk can, or even a golf bag.

Set up a table displaying personal items and photographs. This provides a catalyst for telling stories and sharing memories.

Have a book for visitors to record their memories of your loved one.

Develop a "theme" about the person's lifestyle.
