Veronica T. De Phillips

Our hearts are broken to announce the passing of Veronica T. De Phillips, nee Cichoszewski, on May 3, 2023, who graced this earth for 98 years. Lovingly known to her friends and family as “Babe”, given as she was the youngest of twelve children. She was born in the Brighton Park neighborhood of Chicago on November 22, 1924 and attended Five Holy Martyrs Grammar School and Kelly High School, where she was captain of the softball team and played ice hockey. An athlete and avid bowler in her younger years, she was a talented cook and baker, enjoyed gardening, boating, was very creative and loved to paint. Babe worked for the City of Chicago for many years and retired from the Chicago Park District which she found rewarding and made lifelong friends. She was a resident of Chicago’s Garfield Ridge community for 49 years and lived in Lemont, Illinois, for the past 21 years. Babe was married for 51 years to the love of her life, the late Benjamin Joseph, before his passing in 1998. She raised her family in Garfield Ridge and was a dedicated homemaker. Devoted Mother to Russell (Cindy) De Phillips, Tina (Thomas Jr.) Rouen, Kevin De Phillips and the late Brian (Marie) De Phillips. Loving Grandmother to Danielle (Michael) Bibelheimer, Christopher De Phillips, Jon (Allison) Hale and Sean De Phillips. Babe was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Victoria, nee Tomaszewski, Cichoszewski, her dear sister Dorothy Rockaitis and ten brothers and sisters, and her loving son Brian De Phillips. She will be fondly remembered by her many Nieces, Nephews and their children. Having lived a beautifully full and rewarding life, Babe will be remembered for her independence, remaining young in mind and heart. Her strength, wisdom, compassion and radiance were remarkable. Babe was stunningly beautiful and loved to laugh. She will always be loved and forever remembered. Visitation for Babe will be on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave., Summit, Illinois (55th street just west of Harlem). Visitation on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 will be at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until time of Prayers at 9:30 a.m. The procession will follow from the funeral home to St. Daniel the Prophet Church for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian burial. Babe will be buried next to her dear husband at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, Illinois.
