Edward "Red" and Louise " Lou" Koenig

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Edward A. “Red” Koenig, who passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 20, 2021. Two days later, his loving and devoted wife, Louise “Lou”, joined the love of her life to continue their journey together. They were the most beautiful couple, devoted to each other for 78 years. Loved and cherished parents of Greg (Ericka) Koenig, Bruce (Amanda) Koenig, Gary (Gina) Koenig, and Judy (Mark) Perecich. Dearest grandparents of Michael Koenig, Michele (Dave) Koenig, Philip Koenig, Gregory (Margarita) Koenig, Kylie (Ernie) Wilson, Edward Koenig, Mikayla (Robert) Perecich, Mason and Hunter Perecich, and Bruce Koenig Jr. Great grandparents of 10. Great-great grandparents of 1. Red was the dear brother of the late Leroy Koenig and Louise was the sister of the late Mary Wroten. Lou worked at Montgomery Ward, Service Plumbing, and other various jobs. She loved ceramics and bowling. She belonged to TOPS for many years. However, her greatest achievement by far was her devotion to her husband and family. She personified sweetness, fun, kindness, and love. Red will be remembered as a loving and supportive father, a kind, gentle person, and a decent and honest human being who was always cheerful, courteous, respected, brave, and strong right to the end. The life lessons they have taught their family will live on for generations. The world is a better place because of them. Lifelong residents of Summit. Red was the Plumbing Inspector and Building Official for the Village of Summit for over 25 years. They were involved in the forming of the Port of Summit Boat Club. An Army veteran of World War II, Red was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6863, the American Legion Post #735, and a 65 year member of the Plumbers Union Local 130. A memorial visitation to honor and celebrate Red and Louise’s lives will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 4PM-8PM at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. (55th street just west of Harlem) with a service at 8PM at the funeral home. They will be deeply missed, always loved, and forever remembered.
