Joanne L. Wilhelmy, nee Zigas, of Chicago passed away peacefully in the early morning hours Thursday June 20th after a short illness. She was born December 20, 1936 in Chicago. She married the late Charles S Wilhelmy on May 9, 1959. Loving mother to the late Paulette Wilhelmy and Steven. Dear grandmother to Lindsay and Dana Conlisk. Cherished sister to the late Jack (Donna) Zigas. Mother-in-law to Kevin Conlisk and devoted aunt to Pam and Deb. She will be missed by her numerous cousins and many treasured friends. Joan was a talented and creative artist in the fields of painting, stained glass and sewing. She often designed and crafted the banners that adorned St. Rene Church. She also often painted beautiful renditions of cherished photographs gifting these paintings to family and friends. Her favorite meal to cook and serve was Polish sausage and sauerkraut. It was a favorite holiday meal particularly at Christmas. She also visited the polish bakery to ensure a loaf of pumpernickel bread graced the family’s Christmas dinner table every year. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, daughter Paulette, brother Jack and her sister-in-law Frances (Wilhelmy) and her husband Richard Mysker. Visitation will be held at Two Holy Martyrs Church, St. Rene Parish, 6949 W 63rd Place, Chicago on Friday, June 25th from 10am to 11am. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church immediately following the visitation at 11am. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
