Clifford L. Whitehouse Jr.

It is with broken hearts that we share that Clifford Whitehouse Jr. passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Cliff was born to Clifford and Ima and was raised in the Bridgeport neighborhood with his five siblings Wanda (Terry), Phil (Cathy), Jim (Debra), Paul (Mary Sarah) and Theresa (Harold). Cliff met the love of his life, Arlene (nee Powers), in 1973 and last July celebrated 50 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with faith, family and friends and held each other’s hands through life’s many ups and downs. Cliff was a loving and dedicated father to Elaine (Michael), Cliff (Kasia) and Bridget (Matt). He was the dad who stayed up late finishing science projects, volunteering at scouts, and serving as President of the local school council. He worked hard and made numerous sacrifices to send his kids to Catholic high schools and then college to help them achieve their dreams. Cliff’s favorite word was “grandpa” and he was a devoted grandfather to Matthew, Griffin, Graham, Charlotte and Oliver. He loved cheering in the stands at games, reading the same books many times and sharing big and little moments over ice cream. He was a baby whisperer and world-class hugger. Cliff was a cherished brother-in-law to Bud (the late Marie), Pat (the late Jack), Bob (Pam), Joe (Jackie), Ron, and Dave (Denise). He will also be missed by his extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren, as well as countless dear friends. He was passionate about music, drawing, puzzles and Sudoku. He was an avid Chicago sports fan and always believed that “this year would be the year”. Throughout his life he was guided by his faith, treating everyone with the kindness and care Jesus embodied to him. He volunteered in many roles at his spiritual home, St. Barbara parish, including with the Holy Name Society, as a Eucharistic minister and with the choir. As he returns home to Christ, visitation will be held Wednesday, March 11th from 4 PM to 8 PM at Foran Funeral Home 7300 W. Archer Ave. (55th street just west of Harlem). Family and friends will meet at St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta (formerly St. Barbara) 2859 S. Throop St. Thursday, March 12th for Mass at 10:00 a.m. We will go in procession after Mass to Resurrection Cemetery where Cliff will be entombed. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.
