Walter J. Chrusciel. Beloved Husband of Zofia nee Janik and the late Pelagia. Loving Father of Henry (Debra) Chrusciel, Yolanda Chrusciel (Robert Edwards), Christopher (Lora) Chrusciel and the late Sophia Chrusciel (Richard Stockment). Dearest Grandfather of Jeffrey (Kelly), Russell (Karna), Laura (fiancee Steve), Sara (Jason), Connor, Quinn, Louren. Great Grandfather of Emma, Annika, Madison, Sadie, Kyle and Lucy. Fond Brother of Edward (Dana) Chrusciel, Zofia (Ted) Markiel and the late Janina Bogdanowicz. Walter was born in Poland in 1925. He was deported from Poland to the USSR (Siberia) in 1940, where he lost his father and brother. He joined the Polish Forces in USSR on February 7, 1942 and after crossing the Russo Persian border came under British command on April 20, 1942. He served in the Middle East in 1942 û 1943; in Italy 1943-1946 and in the UK from July 9, 1946 until discharged. He took part in the Italian campaign with two Polish corps from December 13, 1943 to May 2, 1945 fighting proudly at the Battle of Monte Casino, Italy at 18 years of age, making him one of the youngest soldiers there. He immigrated to the United States in 1956 with his young family settling in Cicero, Illinois. He worked for International Harvester (now Navistar) for 25 years and was a proud member of the UAW. As a member of the Allied Forces, he endured great hardships and risks and these experiences shaped his world view and future interests. Funeral Tuesday 9:15 AM from Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave (55th St. just West of Harlem), Summit, Illinois to St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, located at 3010 s. 48th Ct.,Cicero, Illinois for a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, 7201 S. Archer Ave, Justice, Illinois. Walter was a member and past officer of many veteransÆ organizations including: Polish Army Veterans Association of America, District 1, Polish-American Congress, Illinois Division Polish Carpathian Brigade & 3rd Division Ex-Servicemen Association in Chicago, Siberian Society of USA, Polish Army Veterans, Post No. 2, Foundation & Center of the Polish 2nd Corps, Orchard Lake, MI.
